Artery business centre receives prestigious honour at the national architecture awards

Artery, the Class A business centre located on Konstitucijos Avenue in Vilnius, has received one of Lithuania’s most prestigious architectural honours. At the National Architecture Awards, the project was named the country’s best commercial building. The award once again highlights the exceptional contribution that the building, designed by renowned US architect Daniel Libeskind, has made to the development of Lithuanian architecture.

The award for the best commercial building was presented to the architectural practices behind Artery – Studio Libeskind and Archinova – and their architects Daniel Libeskind, Yama Karim, Michael Ashley, Aleksandras Gvildys, Antanas Gvildys, Donatas Žvirblis, Andrius Sinius, Jovita Saveikė and Aušra Gvildienė. The project was recognised as a contextually sensitive, high-quality commercial building designed through an international competition and successfully brought to completion.

According to Marius Žemaitis, Fund Manager and Board Member at Lords LB Asset Management, the company behind the development of the business centre, the award is significant not only for the architects but also for the entire team involved in delivering the project.

“We are grateful for this recognition. It acknowledges the work of every professional who contributed to bringing the Artery business centre to life. The project was ambitious from the outset, and today we can be proud that it has become an important architectural landmark for both Vilnius and Lithuania as a whole,” says Žemaitis.

The National Architecture Awards are a state initiative launched in 2023 to strengthen the culture of architectural appreciation in Lithuania, encourage public discussion about the importance of architecture and draw attention to architecture as a field that serves the public interest. This year, the jury selected the best projects in nine categories from 125 submissions, ranging from residential buildings and urban design solutions to sustainable innovation.

The 20-storey Artery complex, located on Konstitucijos Avenue in Vilnius, incorporates modern architectural and engineering solutions that provide high levels of comfort, energy efficiency and functionality. The business centre is already home to companies, restaurants, retail outlets and service providers.

Rising on the right bank of the River Neris, the complex is regarded as one of the most architecturally sophisticated office developments completed in the Baltic states over the past decade.

When designing the building, Daniel Libeskind envisioned it as a vertical landmark symbolising the gateway to a new and contemporary Vilnius. Artery was conceived as a new artery of the city – a gateway to central Vilnius, a destination in its own right and a reflection of Lithuania’s modern capital.

In early summer 2024, the Artery business centre received international recognition for sustainability, earning a BREEAM Outstanding certificate in the new construction category.

The project, representing an investment of more than EUR 90 million, is being developed by Lords LB Special Fund I Subfund A, a closed-ended real estate investment fund for informed investors managed by the investment management company Lords LB Asset Management.
